A species gone each time we blink
Each one another broken link
As oceans rise and nations sink

So much is lost, so much to mourn
So high the cost, so deep the scorn
Yet something new is being born
The blackest night precedes the dawn

Our time is short, we’re in a race
We must act now, pick up the pace
The simple truth we all must face
Is nature needs to take back space

Let’s let new life reseed and grow
Let woods come back and rivers flow
Rewild the land and seas and know
That nature thrives when we let go

Against the Odds

We met upon the battlefield
And you, a warrior for the cause
Defending all the rights of those
Who journeyed to our distant shores

We found our love in forests green
And there, your wounds began to heal
The wooden staff I carved by hand
Replaced the weary sword of steel

We set off on an unknown trail
That rose to meet a mountain range
The sun reflected in your eyes
Inspired us both to make a change

We each discovered hidden paths
New ways in which to learn and lead
And now a movement lives and breathes
Because we planted that first seed

We found our bliss beneath the trees
Our cottage made into a home
It is our refuge from the storm
No matter where we reach and roam

We met against the odds of fate
Now those you love are by your side
I’m lucky to be one of them
To hold your hand with joy and pride.

It’s never too dark to light with a spark
The blackness of night as colours flash bright
To flame in the gloom and leave a good mark

Thriving

Our life is so much more than a duty or a chore
Of merely getting by without a why or what for
The law of tooth and claw, the struggle to exist
To rally and resist against life’s slow decay
The way of entropy, of living just to see
Another day, to stay, to endure and survive
No, life is meant to thrive

In nature all things grow, from seed to tree, we know
The cycle of living through giving, of reap and sow
The flow, things come and go, the cycles of grooming
From sprouting to blooming, of stretching for the light
The bright palette of hope, the diverse ways to cope
To cherish and flourish, bursting forth and alive
For nature means to thrive

Society lives too, a melting pot we brew
From cultures and crises, with spices for flavour
And kindness to savour, ideas for conceiving
And goals for achieving that stretch us and bind us
That find us, together in all kinds of weather
Wanting what’s fair, to care, longing to love and strive
For society to thrive

The markets live and breathe in complex webs we weave
The synapses of trade have made the things we need
Each deed a chance to lead, while tech is getting smart
Yet still, it needs a heart, a compass as a guide
To tide us through the storm and find a better norm
A breakthrough to renew, an innovation drive
Yes, markets too can thrive

All life is meant to rise, to reach up to the skies
To move beyond the edge, to fledge with hopeful cries
